Do you want answers to your questions about God? Do you wonder…
- What Does the Bible Teach?
- Who is God?
- What Can We Know From Jesus?
- What do Lutheran believe, teach, and confess?
Our pastor has a class that explores Basic Christian Doctrine and you are invited! There is no commitment beyond the time you set aside for the class. Keep reading to find out more about this opportunity and what it means.
Knowing God’s Word
We at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church believe that the Bible is in fact God’s Word. This has been a hallmark of the Christian and Lutheran faith for many years.
Although questions have arisen over whether the Scriptures are trustworthy or have been properly preserved (and some Lutherans have departed from the Christian faith to embrace different philosophies that have become popular in the surrounding culture), we contend that there is clear evidence of the reliability and truthfulness of Scripture such that we can be truly confident in what God is teaching us in His Word.

Not only that, we believe that it is important for all people to know God and to know His Word. He is, after all, your and our Creator. He made us and the whole world and could easily undo His Creation, if He so desired. Because we exist by His command, it is important to know Him and why He created us. Otherwise, you are living and walking in this world blindly, assuming things that are not necessarily true. Such would be to your detriment!
This is one reason God has sent His Word into this world—that we would know Him and know the truth. It is for our benefit that God has revealed Himself to us and given us His Word—the Truth that stands behind this world and even upholds it.
“I Want To Ask A Question!”
Now, perhaps you have lots of questions about Scripture or perhaps you have doubts about the veracity of the Bible. We want to offer you the chance to explore what God has said, what it means, and how we know that this is what God is saying. While it is not the focus of the Basic Christian Doctrine class to dive into the many evidences about how we can know and trust the Scriptures, we are certainly open to exploring that evidence with you. If that is of interest to you, we can set a time outside that regular class time to go into any more details beyond what we are able to cover in the first lesson.
Our Christian Doctrine Class consists of 13 lessons covering several topics including:
God and His Word
God and Creation
The Fall, Sin, and the Law
The Law, Purpose, and Fulfillment
Jesus Christ: His Person and Work
The Holy Spirit and Sanctification
The Church
Baptism
The Office of the Keys and Confession
The Lord’s Supper
Prayer and the Last Things
Vocation (Living out the Christian Faith)
Trials, Troubles, and Temptations
This class is for anyone who wants to explore what the Bible says and how we teach it, regardless of your background. It is also where we seek unity together in and through His Word. For those seeking membership in our church, this class serves as one way of having instruction in God’s Word prior joining together in confessing His teaching. This class also serves as an opportunity for our own church members and others to review the basics and ask questions they may not have had the chance to ask before.
You’re Invited!
We invite you and anyone who wants to explore God’s Word with us because we have been blessed to know the truth and we want to share what God has to say with you. Because we, ourselves, have had questions for God, we want to share what answers God has provided. You are welcome to join us and you are certainly welcome to bring anyone else who is interested in coming to the class.
There is no cost to the class; all study materials are provided. Information Classes are scheduled based on interest and need. Contact the church office to find out the plans for a new class. You can also request our pastor to begin a new class or ask us to put your name on the list to be contacted regarding the start of a future class.
